Gratitude
The little things in life and the large
Gratitude (Dust’s Prayer)
So many moments cross our paths,
Each memorable in its own way —
Unique, eccentric, sometimes raw,
Marked by brutality or angst,
Or softened by shared history,
Where sorrow once rooted, hope is sown.
Then come the dreary days:
The epic fails.
The extra-cup-of-coffee days.
The ones that wear on you like nails
Sliding down the chalkboard slowly —
Yet others hold such stunning hope
That even lowly hearts prevail.
Today is a sunny day, bright with promise,
Warm in the way holiday memories are warm —
Pondered and stored in the heart with rose-colored
Glasses fashioned by reflection.
I have family — my brother, my boys Louie and Steiner,
My wife, the house You gave us, health and heart.
I am full of gratitude for all I have,
But more for the heart You gave me, God:
For the people and family forged,
For friends on Medium,
For bonds woven strong by grace.
Your blessings rest upon me gently.
I thank You for the souls that cross my way,
For giving me heart and words to serve,
To love them as family and friend.
For the four-footed familiars,
For every mercy and every dawn.
Most of all — thank You for Your Love,
And for teaching me to embody it more fully.
Sincerely,
Dust
