If words were wings

Words given Wings

If words were wings

This is a silly little musing, it was meant to be a challenging and different way for me to try to write poetry. In this case with a refrain. Enjoy.

If words were wings,

I’d fly abroad,

Soaring high

Through winds untamed,

Not once asking why.

A gull would carry me

Across the spray,

Lingering long

Where sea meets day.

The gull would rise,

Become an eagle,

Strong and free

Above the pines,

And glide ever faithfully.

The eagle bends

To sparrow small,

Who steals the hours

In quiet joy,

Held in the hush before fall.

And sparrow’s song

Would climb to You,

Beloved One —

A scroll inscribed in Spirit,

Unified in the Son.

So every bird,

Each word in flight,

Finds its runway

In Heaven’s light:

A prayer held fast

In Your faithful grasp.
