Letters of Love

Rachel,
When my eyes met yours for the first time, your soft brown soulful portals featuring green tinged edges, encapsulated me. You wrapped around me and entered into my sacred space becoming a fixture in my thoughts. With a tentative glance, eyes catching , meeting, averting, a dance of looks ensued so long ago.
To me you shined, a beacon of possibility, a tantalizing whisper made to heal a broken heart. From that first fateful look, our separate lives ended and a death took place. The death of each of us in the singular, replaced with our conjoined cohabitation and whirlwind romance.
Your twinkle, that dimpled cheek and careful smile , always inspired fierce protective loyalty for you and indeed still does. Now we are older, our whispered dreams unfolding as life lived progresses unpredictably. Still I am reminded, of that first electric kiss, stolen repeatedly and always as the first in potency.
When I look at you I still see her, that 27 year old firecracker that stole my heart entirely . You have aged but your youth still radiates from slightly creased eyes. You are like a vintage fine wine aged in perfection, decanted and shared with aplomb. You have grown, matured, and become a woman worthy of admiration.
For every year shared I thank you my love. For every tear spilled, every stolen hug, and every disaster overcome, I thank you. We had no instruction manual. We made so many mistakes, still we endured, together. For the 17 years of fulfilling our shared dream of getting wrinkly and old together I thank you and love you.
Thank you my love.
