Night Church for the Throwaways
Unity in Substance

We return ultimately to where we began.
Where Do We End and You Begin?
Creation sprang forth from Your word (Genesis 1:3 — 31).
If Your Word — the One used in creation — is anything like our own, then perhaps it too was birthed from intent and consideration. Yet coupled with Your omnipotent power, it becomes something wholly other. We are your bespoke vessels, made for you, by you.
Your will, creativity, wisdom, perfection, and knowledge shine on full display in everything we see. If we meditate on the work of Your hands, even in the lowliest of things, we are fed a steady diet of awe. We begin to notice the small things in the slower moments where You minister to us.
Creation’s substance came from God — the Word.
We were created from the dust, the very stuff of creation.
And then, we were breathed upon by the Living God and given life by the Word.
We return ultimately to where we began.
I wonder about the mystery of it. You are all the best parts of me. What will be the difference between me and you in eternity? Will my substance be subsumed into perfect unity? Might I be given a private altar near Your heart where I could offer praise continually while abiding in You and You in me? However, I would be overjoyed with even the position of doorkeeper at the outermost fringes of Your garment, honestly.
These were just my musings and thoughts on a Sunday like today.
I often think too highly of myself. This is why Dust I remain.
To You,
For You,
From Him,
In Me.
