Storied Stones: A Eulogy for a Life Unknown
I wrote this unprompted while walking today, when I happened upon an overgrown stone long forgotten.

I wrote this unprompted while walking today, when I happened upon an overgrown stone long forgotten.
I see you there,
Stone embossed,
Raised figures denoting —
Life lived for a breath,
Departing at my age,
Forty-five seasons seen.
Death arriving at your best,
January 8, 1914 —
John L. Kennedy.
Granite holds the memory,
Vines creep as ages pass,
Dust once more in peaceful rest.
I see you,
I remember you,
Even though I never knew you.
“Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall
See God.”
Your closing statement, carved,
Powerful, profound,
Like a life lived before Him.
Farewell for now,
Dearly departed,
I will see you soon.
Dust
To you,
For you,
From Him,
In me.
