The Gravy of Grace

On Finding God in the Ordinary Overflow

We are venturing inward — into ourselves —

I have often used the mountaintop as a metaphor for our relationship with God.

Today, however, I was reminded: we are not moving toward some great and storied height, nor traveling east or west.

We are venturing inward — into ourselves —

through collected reflections of the evidence of God in our lives.

We consider how we act,

and weigh the words of others more carefully,

because we do not want to miss Him speaking through the mouth of a stranger.

In this, I have understood the hymn:

“The things of life grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.”

The closer we are to Him, the closer we are to others,

for we begin to see them as extensions of Him.

We ascend, reminded by our senses of Him.

We descend into worship and reflection within.

Once we have tasted and seen that the Lord is good

— That’s it.

There is no other taste that can fulfill.

We approach Him in Us:

Communion eternal.

We approach others as Them in Him.

And all is covered over by the Gravy of Grace.

We are One in Him,

and have the power to transcend the finite,

to see the infinite —

to see the continuity of Him

just as He has always been:

with Us,

in Us,

and Us.

We transcend borders and doctrines

when we catch the glimmers of Him in others everywhere.

There is a current in life that echoes through eternity:

a Hand,

a Weaver on the Loom,

A sculptor with His clay.

The vision, when glimpsed, is beyond words comprehensible.

It is all present in the things that have been created.

This was my moment of clarity today,

while getting my haircut.

It struck me hard —

as a humbling experience,

and a deepening invitation to know Him more.

As always, this is Dust:

For you, the Kindled,

Blaze.
