The psalmist is not a distant figure, robed in mystery. The psalmist is every soul who lifts their gaze and their voice to the Father. When we worship, the hood falls, the hidden is revealed, and we discover that the song has always been ours.

A robed figure moves with studied stillness.

“Let us slowly approach, my friends,” she invites.

“Ready yourself within.”

Her robed wrist slides past engraved ink: Beloved.

“Remember Awe and Wonder.”

She closes hazel eyes nearly hidden by her hood.

The psalmist begins to sing again.

She starts haltingly at first, then with gathered speed.

“Enter with me, Beloved, to the courts of praise.

The blood of the Lamb who was slain and yet lives is our entry.

He has made us worthy.

Draw with me in reverent awe, instructed, internal genuflection…

As we enter this moment with presence,

Intent, present, awaiting the Presence.”

Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! (Psalm 100:4)

To You who are from Everlasting to Everlasting,

We come before You in worship.

Naked adoration, unclothed before the Flame.

She bows her head silently.

We bring our entirety before You.

We bring our present presence to You.

Asking You to join us presently in Presence.

We know we are Yours.

The psalmist gestures animatedly as if in conversation.

We are complete only in You.

There is no life apart from You.

We praise You for You.

Nothing more needs be done,

Because You have done it all already.

A faint glimmer appears above her head.

You could have sworn it was sunshine in profile.

She turns then, piercing me with her gaze.

Her face is lined and tanned, weathered, marked with Glory.

Her hair steel gray and short, jaw firm, laugh lines evident,

Mirth concealed behind clever eyes.

Then she speaks, measuredly, to me:

“Long has He waited for you,

To stop and show up totally,

To silence distractions,

To lay down the outward,

For the inward journey,

Of the Soul and Self,

Culminating in Sanctification.”

I was floored as I listened, realizing:

I am the Psalmist.

He is the subject of the Psalm.

We are the Rhythm.

Yeshua the Reason.

And Holy Spirit the Binder.

As we become both witness and witnessed.
