There Is a Time for Every Thing Under Heaven
Ecclesiastes Meditation in Poetry

This is a meditation on Ecclesiastes and what the ancient Preacher may have written had it been penned after Christ’s redemption.
There is a time for every thing under heaven —
A time to be born,
A time to die,
A time to gather,
A time to scatter,
A time to weep,
A time to laugh.
All things have been and will ever be;
There is nothing new under the sun.
All has been and will be again.
As it is, so shall it be said:
All is vanity —
A chasing after the wind,
Ever empty hands filled with striving and toil
Whilst reaching.
With much wisdom comes much sorrow.
With understanding is birthed compassion.
It is better to be content with little and peace
Than with much intermingled with constant strife.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
And the beginning of knowledge is Christ crucified —
The Hope of Glory, my Salvation, ever redeeming,
Risen King, we wait in silent trembling.
The End shall be as the Beginning.
Creation given new form,
As clay in hand is shaped,
A physical vessel,
A kiln fired,
Our earthen work —
Flesh flash-fired
By glory, searing and abounding.
As always,
Dust
