Under His Sheltered Shade
Summer Days at Lakeside that Stays

White pillowed lazy perfection,
Way above,
Overhead,
Little lounging loafs of snow-colored lethargy,
Swimming in a sea of cornflower blue.
The sun peaks through dappled cover
To kiss the face, the hands, the unprotected bands.
Children frolic by mirrored water’s edge,
Just out of view, yet laughter heard.
Ponds mirror a scene of familial and cosmic warmth.
Some drift on air-held plastic floats,
Others speed with motored boats,
All of it a microcosm of life, sliced in repose.
Through my tousle-tossed hair
The breeze joins the fray of summer’s sleepy haze,
The willowy breath of the unseen lengthening our days.
Through winter’s chill and autumn’s falling rays
Memories are formed for the colder, sorrowful ways,
To sustain us when silence rests heavy,
Held and clutched tight to chest like a forbidden blanket that says,
These moments pair well with gloried hands lifted in praise.
I tilt my head to the left as I listen,
The lilting song of life’s lessons as lullaby.
The sun’s emotive force informs my cells of place.
The right side lit and sun-soaked, I ponder
The distant sights within, and wonder…
If He is All in All, then I am always under
His sheltered shade.
Within and without,
He remains.
