Wax in Love With Fire

Stepping fowards instead of back

Wax in Love With Fire

I got to thinking about God again today, and a new way to explain Him and us came to me. It is a large, compact analogy – but bear with me to the end and you’ll thank yourself.

God as Fire.

We as vessels wrapped in wax.

Our flesh, the wax.

Our soul, the animating force that moves the wax.

At the core: either light or darkness, absence or presence.

Our walk toward God is a walk toward Fire. As we draw near, the outer layers – falsehoods, casual regard – begin to melt away. Flesh, by nature, heats, drips, changes form. The core is brought closer to the surface.

Casual relationship ends when the source of transformation begins true reformation. Relationship becomes refinement. Our will, freely given and housed in bodies of wax, takes another step closer to the Flame – having tasted and seen that the Lord is good.

The will chooses, again and again, to move toward that which refines even as it defines. For we, walking candles, must learn: the soul presides and returns to its source.

This walk is counter to nature. Free will forsakes flesh for Spirit. We step forward knowing we will diminish. Wax will shed. Wax will be lost. And yet we keep walking – because though outwardly diminished, inwardly we are renewed day by day.

Until at last the wax is refined so pure it grows translucent. Flesh no longer conceals, but becomes the window through which the temple shines.

We become wax in love with Fire.

As always Dust,

To you,

For you,

From Him,

In me.
