Words
Spoken, Withheld, and Spewed
Picture this…
A politician speaks at a convention, the crowds rising and falling with every uttered promise. Lies and truth intermingle to create a cocktail of privileged disdain for the opposition. Cultured followers worship a beast in human form, praising prejudice given voice in red, white, and blue.
Words,
Power wrapped in velvety soft tones,
Shaped by tongue in cheek,
A sword carried softly through vibrations tonality,
Intent fashioned with emotion formed.
A Father speaks, instructing a child gently in the paths of righteousness. The same voice, correcting and praising, offers cutting rebuke to perceived slights of others under the watchful gaze of impressionable youth. A course set and held in genetic memory, psychological elasticity cementing hypocrisy.
Words,
Divisive and debilitating,
Shouted at the mob's head,
Movement incited to pillaging,
Raped and raging pyre.
Torch held high in Twilight embrace, followed by the massed village’s incited peasants, He leads to destroy. Women once loved by all are now exiled to society's fringe, targeted for herbal homeopathic remedies, to be burned in the bone. Witchcraft excised by a single whispered accusation.
Words,
Lullabies sung lovingly,
Above infants manger,
Mother and Father’s solemn vow,
Protection and security both.
Mother and Father hover over a new life, rejoicing in the perfection of form in gratitude. Spoken solemn vows of protection and care, later to be discarded and forgotten by time and distance. Moments of parental adoration give rise to quiet power.
Words,
Praise offered with upraised heart,
Thanksgiving and need both,
Twined ‘round in spools of supplication,
Softly alone and in silence reverberating.
Sitting in pews of oaken, aged golden wood, singing written hymns of adoration to the Father. Behind pulpit, exposition is offered with insight guided by lived perception and not graceful acceptance. Lies and truth at once.
Words,
Spoken, Withheld, internal and external,
Kept and given,
Intent behind purpose’s prerogative,
Courses changed and rivers aflame.
I have a dream! Complexities were set aside to rally around Martin’s anthem, ending segregation. Later to be silenced by oppositions leaded disdain.
Words,
Lies and Truth,
Spiraled round, distilled into obscurity,
Manifestation through manipulation,
Half heard or screamed.
Songs famous and obscure inspiring generations behind becoming. Power given, power taken, lost and found, forgotten and barely remembered. All brings with it echoes of permanence.
Words,
By which shall we be weighed?
The account has been given for spoken and unspoken,
Heart’s truth given rise to creation,
Like Father’s spoken procreation.
